Case Studies
Oak Park Unified School District, Oak Park, CA
The Oak Park Unified School District, located in southern California
outside of Los Angeles, installed hydrations stations at all their school
sites, consisting of 3 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and 2 high
schools with a total enrollment of about 4000 students. The units were
installed at cafeteria, gym, and library locations.
According to the school district, the hydration stations cost about
$850/unit. District officials stated that other options were more expensive
and required more maintenance. The hands-free dispensers provide clean,
chilled water to students. To promote the effort to boost water
consumption, the local PTA sold school logo aluminum water containers.
Students use the stations mostly during lunch, physical education, and
athletic events. Students, parents, and staff all have positive
feedback and the district reports that they are able to meet sustainability
goals by decreasing single-use plastic bottle waste.
